Introduction

• 50% asymptomatic

• symptoms take approx 4 weeks to devleop

• F:

  • dysuria

  • vaginal irriation

  • yellow-green frothy vaginal discharge

• M:

  • thin milky discharge and dysuria

• incubation 4-28d

first line

• Metronidazole 2g stat

• for metrondazole 400mg bd for 7 days

• may be given to women who are preg or BF (B2)

• advised to avoid BF fr 12-24 hrs after dose

• Ornidazole 1.5g stat may be used instead of metronidazole

• Test of cure not usually required

• emperical treatment of male partners recomended without testing

  • swab too low sensitivity in males

  • check for other STI
