Seroconversion illness

  • acute illness associated with primary HIV infection \~80%

  • 2-4/52 after exposure

  • seroconversion lasts 2-3w

  • in early phase HIV antibody may be neg or equivocal

  • HIV-1 RNA in plasma

  • antibodies = completion of seroconversion

Symptoms:

  • fever

  • fatigue

  • maculopapular rash

  • myalgia

  • headacehs/aseptic meningitis

  • lymphadenopathy

  • pharyngitis

  • may manifestation

pre-test counselling

  • not a requirement unless patient requests/needs this
