only prescribe colchicine for acute gout if patient has CI to first-line tratemnts: NSAIDs/Steroids 
- 
Prescribe max 12 colchicine tablets 
- 
2 tablets followed every 6 hours by one tablet until relief obtained 
- 
maximum of 5 tablets in first 24hours 
- 
cumulative dose of 6mg over 4 days should not be exceeded 
- 
discontinue immediately if: - 
abdominal pain 
- 
diarrhoea 
- 
nausea 
- 
vomiting
