• only prescribe colchicine for acute gout if patient has CI to first-line tratemnts: NSAIDs/Steroids

  • Prescribe max 12 colchicine tablets

  • 2 tablets followed every 6 hours by one tablet until relief obtained

  • maximum of 5 tablets in first 24hours

  • cumulative dose of 6mg over 4 days should not be exceeded

  • discontinue immediately if:

    • abdominal pain

    • diarrhoea

    • nausea

    • vomiting
