  • DVT vs. Superficial ven thrombosis

    • painful, red, firm lump in lower leg

    • DVT suspected if:

      • superficial thrombosis in upper medial third of thigh

      • swelling lower leg more than would be expected with SVT alone

      • SVT extending

      • diagnosis uncertian

      • risk factor for DVT

    • superficial femoral vein = deep vein

    • when svt wihtin 3cm of sapheno-femoral vein an increased risk of dvt
